Protecting People, Not Just Data
What happens when AI watches us before we even know it's there? In this urgent conversation, host Curt Doty sits down with Dr. Lena Weber of the ACLU New Mexico. Together, they unpack the real-world impacts of surveillance technology, the invisible spread of data misuse, and the bold statewide movement to build laws that protect our civil liberties in a digitized world.
Dr. Lena Weber is the Director of Public Policy at the ACLU of New Mexico, where she works with partners across the state to collaboratively understand and address the civil rights and liberties impacts of AI and technology. This includes the impacts of surveillance technology, the risks of attacks or misuse of New Mexican’s sensitive personal information, and the need for strong, comprehensive data privacy laws at the state level. She participates in a statewide coalition called NM CHISPA, which focuses on the specific data privacy health and safety implications for New Mexico and calls for statewide action to protect our communities in the broader context of the federal and global data privacy & surveillance landscapes.
